Melco, a manufacturer of computer peripherals and wireless LAN solutions, has announced a “new generation” of the Buffalo wireless LAN (WLAN) series, AirStation 2x, which purportedly has twice the data rate of current 11Mbps AirStation models.
Melco’s current AirStation wireless print server supports Mac, Windows and Unix operating system, as well as TCP/IP, NetBEUI, NetWare and AppleTalk protocols. Besides connectivity to an existing Wired LAN, the AirStation can also offer wireless Internet access.
The first products in the AirStation 2x series will be a standard bridge access point model, WLA-T22G and a wireless card bus adapter, WLI-CB-T22G. The AirStation 2x is functionally compatible with existing 1, 2, 5.5 and 11 Mbps products and adds the 22 Mbps high-rate capability as a natural extension of the existing technology to meet the demands for 22Mbps WLAN products today, according to the folks at Melco.
An integrated broadband router model, WLAR-T22G-L, for ADSL/CATV modems and Internet sharing will be introduced in the first quarter of next year. The AirStation 2x products should be priced comparable to existing 802.11b AirStation products on the market.
