24U s.r.o. has released a new cross-platform 24U Preferencis+Globals Plug-In 1.0 for FileMaker Pro for Mac OS, Mac OS X and Windows. This FileMaker Pro plug-in makes it possible to use custom preferences and global variables, according to MacTech magazine.
Custom preferences can be stored on your hard disk and retrieved later by any FileMaker Pro application. Global variables can be created on-the-fly and accessed from any database within the same FileMaker Pro application.
Aparajita Fishman of Victory-Heart Productions has released his first public beta of Active4D 2.0, a server-side embedded scripting language for 4th Dimension that brings the functionality of Microsoft’s Active Server Pages to the 4D environment.
Active4D is US$99 per developer, per platform for the developer license. Deployment licenses are priced at $700 per server for the first year, $270 per year to renew. Deployment licenses include support and upgrades. OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and volume pricing is also available on request. A full working demo of Active4D can be downloaded from Fishman’s Web site. The demo times out after an hour of continuous use, after which 4D must be restarted.
Active4D runs on the classic Mac operating system and Windows. A Carbonized version is in the works.
NetMechanic has developed an only online tool, Browser Photo, that allows Web site developers and designers to view their site as their visitors do through all major browser and computer combinations. Now Browser Photo, first introduced in March, is expanding its ability to test for browser display problems. Version 2.0 adds Netscape Navigator 6.1 and Internet Explorer 6.0 testing, bringing the total number of browser and computer combinations in Browser Photo 2.0 to 16.
The latest version Browser is available now for $135 for an annual subscription or for a one-time-use price of $15. An online Quick Tour of Browser Photo is available.
The programming language Omikron Basic for the Mac is now available as Version 7.0 Beta. In addition to the completely redesigned editor, many additional functions were implemented, as well.
For instance, the last workspace can be automatically loaded when the program starts. The price for Omikron Basic 7.0 ranges from $47 for the academic download version up to $143 for the professional version supplied on CD. Purchasing the beta version now entitles you to a free upgrade to the final version later. Registered owners of Omikron Basic 6 can upgrade at a discount. Omikron Basic 7 requires System 8.1 or later and at least 6MB of free space on your hard drive. You can download a free demo version at the product Web site.
