Freeverse Software is best known for their popular shareware board and card games, but occasionally they venture into other territories. Over the summer at Macworld Expo in New York, the company showed off one work in progress that has just been released: a new role-playing game for the Mac called Atlas: The Gift of Aramai.
Freeverse Software worked in conjunction with Digital Terra to release the game, which they call a “classic RPG adventure” in the same vein as Spiderweb Software’s popular Exile series or Realmz from Fantasoft.
“There is great unrest in the realm of Ammeth. A new evil has risen in the northern reaches of the kingdom, and darkness spreads throughout the land. A young diplomat named Jarreck is dispatched by the crown. His mission is urgent: to seek the root of the evil, and to eradicate it…”
System requirements for Atlas: The Gift of Aramai call for a PowerPC-based Mac, 10MB available RAM; 256 color display or better; Mac OS 7.5.5 or higher. It runs in Mac OS X under Classic.
The game features 850 non-player characters that you can interact with and more than 150 unique items to obtain. You can download it and try it out now; if you like it, it costs US$19.95 to register. Freeverse also makes the game available on CD-ROM for $29.95.
