Handspring, the makers of the Visor/Treo handheld line, have introduced their Enterprise Alliance Partnership (EAP) Program, part of the company’s strategy to bring end-to-end handheld computing and communications solutions to corporate customers.
The company is working with providers of industry-standard business solutions to make it easy for organizations to standardize on Handspring’s new Treo communicators and the Visor expandable handhelds as mobile business application platforms, according to Ed Colligan, Handspring’s chief operating officer.
He added that Handspring intends to establish a strong presence among Fortune 500 companies “seeking the best and most compact platforms for extending mission-critical business applications.” The company has recently announced strategic level partnerships with such firms as Aether Systems, AvantGo, Extended Systems, Synchrologic, Wireless Knowledge and Visto Corp. The companies will jointly execute sales and marketing programs and will purportedly work towards developing solutions that address a broad set of mobile needs. Key applications include access to corporate e-mail, Sales Force Automation, Enterprise Resource Planning, Customer Resource Management, as well as solutions tailored to the medical and pharmaceutical industries.
The EAP program is designed to develop partnerships with companies that will provide software solutions and highly leveraged marketing and sales support to complement Handspring’s products, Colligan said. There are two tiers in the program, a basic partnership and a strategic partnership. Each partner will have access to marketing support for content, training resources, promotional opportunities and other value-added programs which all drive sales and encourage effective relationships.
In addition to teaming with these solutions providers, Handspring intends to leverage its existing relationships with enterprise-focused resellers, retailers, middleware partners, systems integrators and eventually wireless service providers to pave inroads to a broader set of corporate buyers, Colligan said.
Handspring will further outline its enterprise programs and strategy this week at the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas during an enterprise training seminar entitled “Mobilizing Your Business with Handspring.”
