has introduced a new 640MB CompactFlash Type I card that operates at 16x speed. Intended for high-res digital cameras and other devices that need large amounts of flash storage, the new card begins shipping to retailers in early December with a suggested retail price of US$900.
Lexar Media’s newest entry to its Professional Series of digital flash storage products, the new card joins other products with 192, 256, 320 and 512MB capacities.
Lexar Media speed-rates its digital storage products, and they rate this new card at 16x. That means that the card is capable of a minimum sustained write speed of 2.4MB per second, which makes it possible to take pictures more quickly and to read and write info faster on digital cameras that can make use of the faster speed. Lexar’s rating is borrowed from the CD-ROM speed rating convention, where 1x is equivalent to 150Kb per second.
Lexar Media’s Professional Series CompactFlash products come with a lifetime warranty, 24-hour tech support and free data recovery services. The medium supports upgradeable firmware, which enables users to optimize the card’s capabilities for specific camera models. Lexar Media cards are also USB-enabled for quick image transfer.
