Users of Microsoft’s free email program, Outlook Express, can once again access their Hotmail accounts. The Macintosh Business Unit has released an update to the program that fixes a bug that caused Hotmail accounts to become inaccessible.
Unfortunately, users of Entourage 2001 and Entourage for Mac OS X will have to wait a while before they get access to their Hotmail accounts. A representative for the MacBU told MacCentral that they are still working on a fix for Entourage.
In late October, Microsoft’s Hotmail servers were updated to provide increased security via centralized Passport authentication. These security updates disabled the ability for Microsoft’s Mac e-mail applications to access or send e-mail from Hotmail.
Microsoft indicated at the time that when users tried to access their accounts, one or all of the following could occur: All Hotmail folders disappear; no folders appear after the configuration of a Hotmail account; the following error appears: The Hotmail folder list could not be received; and an HTTP error could occur — The server cannot fulfill the request. Error: 1500
