Elite Computers & Software will re-open another of the former ComputerWare locations this Saturday, Nov. 17, in Berkeley, CA. It’s the fourth ComputerWare location to be re-opened by Elite in the past three months.
The new ComputerWare by Elite Computers store is located at 1995 University Ave, Berkeley, CA. Store hours are Mon-Sat 10-7 and Sunday 12-5.
The grand opening party will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. An Apple representative will be on hand to answer questions and there will be free hourly prizes, vendor demos and more, according to Thomas Armes, president and CEO of Elite Computers. And there should be iPods “in good supply,” he added.
Elite Computers & Software has now opened stores in the San Francisco Bay Area in San Rafael, Sunnyvale, Capitola and now Berkeley. The original Elite Computers & Software store is located in Cupertino, directly across from the Apple campus.
In its original incarnation, ComputerWare was a chain of 10 retail stores with locations in San Rafael, Berkeley, San Francisco, Walnut Creek, Dublin, San Mateo, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and Capitola. The company also had an online mail-order business. ComputerWare opened its first store in Palo Alto in January 1985. ComputerWare was both an Apple authorized reseller and an Apple Specialist — a category of reseller that sells and services primarily Apple products, and meets Apple product knowledge and service standards. The company went out of business in April, but was later acquired by Elite.
