MacPlay announced plans to release the game Sacrifice to distribution on December 7, 2001.
Sacrifice is a real-time strategy game that puts you in the role of a wizard. You battle up to four other wizards in a variety of landscapes — vast, floating islands, in fact — ruled by the Five Gods. In your goal to appease these gods, you must collect and sacrifice enemy souls on your Altar. Each of the Five Gods sport different attributes, reflected in the types of creatures and forces available for your summoning.
You can cast spells to summon creatures to fight on your behalf or you can use your own magic powers to cast more than 50 different spells; some of these spells are attack magic, while others alter the landscape and the weather system. You can call forth an earthquake, a rain of fire, tornadoes and other forces natural and supernatural. You must do your best to vanquish your foes while protecting your own home base or Altar, at all costs. As you sacrifice souls along the way, you gain access to more powerful spells.
The single-player game is a campaign involving 46 levels. The game also sports a multiplayer mode, as well. System requirements for Sacrifice were not immediately available from MacPlay as we went to press with this article.
MacPlay is a subsidiary of United Developers. About a year ago, United Developers announced the rebirth of the brand, which had been defunct for several years under the aegis of game publisher Interplay. Shortly thereafter, MacPlay announced plans to publish several Interplay-licensed games for the Macintosh, including Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Giants: Citizen Kabuto, both of which recently began shipping to Mac retailers. Other Interplay-licensed titles still to come include Icewind Dale and Starfleet Command II: Empires at War.
