Apple machines may be “underdogs” in a Windows world, but they make holiday gifts, writes columnist Julio Ojeda-Zapata for the Knight Ridder News Service .
The columnist says the best bargain Mac at the moment is the iBook, whose “milky white exterior,” bright screen, and comfortable keyboard “have universal appeal.” Ojeda-Zapata describes the laptop as “a workhorse in the living room, boardroom or classroom.”
Despites its “relatively modest G3 processor, the iBook has plenty of power for word processing, number crunching and even photo or video manipulation, the columnist said. On the other hand, Ojeda-Zapata says to pass on the iMac as the “once-revolutionary” system is getting musty. The columnist expects a new model to be introduced next year.
Ojeda-Zapata also recommends Macs for Mac OS X (“looks spectacular and is fun to use”), as well as Apple’s iTools Internet services for Mac users. The columnist also praises the AirPort wireless technology.
