Microsoft’s Macintosh Business Unit (MacBU) has released an update for Entourage 2001 fixing a bug that would not allow users to connect to their Hotmail accounts. Users of Entourage X, which officially shipped yesterday as part of the Office v. X suite, will have to wait a little bit longer to get the same functionality in their application.
“We are working on an updater for Entourage X and hope to have it available soon,” Erik Ryan, product manager for the MacBU, told MacCentral. “There will be an actual patch that customers can download that will fix this Hotmail functionality. Outlook Express and Entourage 2001 already have fixes available. Customers can download the latest versions from the Microsoft Mactopia Web site.”
The update also adds support for MSN mail accounts. If you have an MSN Internet Access account, this update enables Entourage to send and receive messages from your MSN mail account. In addition, this update allows the Entourage Junk Mail Filter to work with the MSN Inbox Guardian to identify possible junk messages.
In addition, The update extends support for SMTP authentication — a standard for sending messages securely. You can now use a complete e-mail address as your account ID for connecting to your SMTP server to send messages.
Microsoft last week updated Outlook Express allowing it to connect to Hotmail accounts.
