Apple is expanding its Asia procurement office in Taipei, Taiwan and sending staff to open a branch office in Shenzhen, China, a city in China bordering Hong Kong according to a Bloomberg news report.
Apple will buy US$3 billion of electronics products from Taiwan this year. Apple intends to increase its purchases of computers and other parts from Taiwan next year to lower its production costs and will expand its Asia procurement office on the island.
Quanta Computer and Alpha-Top Corp. make laptops for Apple in Taiwan. Hon Hai Precision Industry assembles the iMac, according to the Bloomberg article. Quanta’s sales and shipments in 2002 will rise almost a third from this year as customers place more orders with Taiwan’s biggest maker of notebook personal computers. The company expects to ship over 4.2 million notebook personal computers and meet a sales target of NT$131 billion, company spokeswoman Sherry Yang said.
