Web Help Desk 5.1, a Web application for technical support, is now available from MacsDesign Studio.
Designed for education and small to medium sized business customers, Web Help Desk is built with WebObjects 5 and offers what MacsDesign Studio describes as “an intuitive Web interface” and feature set for both end users and support technicians.
WebObjects is Apple’s application server for Web publishing and enterprise application development. Version 5 packs tools to enable users to develop sophisticated and scalable Web applications that can be deployed on virtually any Java-compatible server.
Unlike scripted Web applications based on technologies such as ASP or PHP, Web Help Desk uses Java1 objects for users to manage their clients, assets and job tickets, according to MacTech magazine (http://www.mactech.com). And since Web Help Desk is written in Java, it can run on any operating system with Java 2 SE installed, including Mac OS X Server, Windows 2000/XP and Solaris 8.
Web Help Desk 5.1 boasts intelligent business logic for job assignments based on location, problem type and load balancing, as well as asset management, including the ability to group assets into parent/child relationships. It provides e-mail notifications of new jobs, job updates and cancellations for both end users and support technicians. Web Help Desk 5.1 has graphic reporting of common job ticket details for technicians and locations, as well as a Frequently Asked Questions module for end user self-help on commonly asked questions
