Sand Hill Engineering has announced the release of XTension version 3.7.4. The new version of the Mac-only home automation software now supports Web-based control, making it possible for you to control and monitor your home automation system from a Web browser.
XTension provides a bridge to X-10 plug-in boxes, which have been sold for the better part of the last two decades under a variety of brand names. The devices enable users to control household appliances, lights and other electrical equipment. Although there are some limitations, the hardware has been used by a wide number of folks over the years.
The new build of XTension uses verbs that now support embedded HTML tags in served Web pages. “Using Apple’s PWS, QuidProQuo, or MacHTTP, and James Sentman’s ‘X2Web’ plug-in, you can now create web pages that include home conditions, weather, controls, and even web cams, more easily than ever before,” noted Sand Hill Engineering.
Other new features and bug fixes have also been implemented.
XTension is offered both in a Lite version that limits the number of database units you can use, as well as a full version that can be unlocked with a software key for US$79.95.
