Writing for Macworld Spain, editor Guillermo López notes that a Mac version of the tactical action/strategy game Commandos 2: Men of Courage is currently in development. López’s news comes in a new article entitled Commandos 2 para Mac el próximo año (which, as you may have guessed, is in Spanish — “Commandos 2 for the Mac will be released next year”).

López spoke with Pyro Studios developer Gonzalo Suárez, who said the Mac version of the game could be finished by the end of the first quarter. Suárez indicated that development of the Mac version of Commandos 2 is running parallel to the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions. Suárez called the Mac “a platform with great machines.”

Published for the PC by Eidos Interactive, Commandos 2: Men of Courage puts players in control of a group of commandos during World War II. Each commando has a different specialty — Green Beret, sniper, demolitions expert, seductress, thief, even a dog. Players must accomplish mission-based objectives as they venture deep into enemy territory, based on real-world World War II environments — deep into the third Reich, a northern European submarine installation, the headquarters of the Japanese army and other locations. Players must accomplish 10 missions in 9 different environments that sport realistic weather effects and night and day settings.

Commandos 2: Men of Courage features a 3D engine that enables users to rotate the camera 360 degrees. Users can zoom in and out, move in and out of buildings, vehicles, and under water as well. The game also sports a cooperative multiplayer mode.
To date, Eidos Interactive has not confirmed the publication of a Mac-compatible release of Commandos 2: Men of Courage. Macworld Spain’s coverage does not specify which company will publish the Mac version.
