There’s a new ATA PCI upgrade card from Miglia Technology, the Alchemy ATA133 RAID PCI, which boasts built in hardware support for Raid 0. It’s Mac OS X compatible (including Mac 10.1), as well as Mac OS 8.6-9.x.
The card provides 133MB/s on each of its two channels, allowing up to four separate drives to be connected inside a Mac (two drives on the internal bus and two on the ATA card). With the built in support for Raid 0, it’s possible to read and write to two drives simultaneously, increasing the I/O (in/out) performance of your Mac, according to Ian Matthews, managing director of Miglia Technology.
“The demand for larger faster storage, particularly for Video use is what prompted the release of this product so soon after announcing the Alchemy ATA133,” he said.
The Alchemy ATA133 RAID PCI card, along with the standard Alchemy ATA133 PCI card, supports drives larger than 137GB. It can be used in standard mode in which drives are accessed independently or in RAID mode in which I/O operations are performed simultaneously on two drives.
Compatible Macs include: 7300, 7500, 7600, 8200, 8500, 8600, 9500, 9600 and clones; Power Mac G3 Beige; Power Mac G3 Blue & White; and Power Mac G4.
