Pinnacle Systems Inc. today announced Commotion Pro 4.1. The new paint, compositing and special effects software for video supports Mac OS X, as well as Apple’s Final Cut Pro 3, announced earlier today.
Commotion Pro 4.1 now features the ability to export a sequence from Final Cut Pro to Commotion Pro in one step, negating the need to save the project as QuickTime media first or to create a separate edit decision list just for Commotion Pro. The software also supports Mac OS X’s Aqua user interface, as well as a fully threaded multitasking environment.
Commotion Pro 4.1 isn’t limited to Final Cut Pro 3 or Mac OS X, however — the software works with Final Cut Pro 2.0.2 and later, in Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X.
Commotion Pro 4.1 and Commotion 4.1 are free software updaters — look for them to be released in late December. They’ll work on all existing Commotion Pro 4, Commotion 4, CineWave and TARGA 3000 systems.
Commotion Pro 4.1 is also a key part of Pinnacle Systems’ CineWave bundle — a combination of software and hardware that enables Mac users to edit High Definition and uncompressed real-time Standard Definition formats using Final Cut Pro. For the moment, however, CineWave’s drivers are still Mac OS 9-only.
