DVcreators.net, a company that specializes in digital media training, has a new US$29.95 CD-ROM-based course called “Making Awesome iMovies” that deals with — you guessed it — creating desktop movies with Apple’s iMovie software, the entry level video editing software that comes installed on all new Macs.
The “Making Awesome iMovies” CD includes sections on planning, camcorder operation, shooting aesthetics, lighting and location audio. There’s also a 45-minute tutorial on iMovie, showing professional editing techniques used in Hollywood films and how to add titles, filters, special effects, transitions, music and sound effects to enhance a video project.
The delivery section of “Making Awesome iMovies” shows how to export a finished movie back to the camcorder; how to make a VHS tape copy; how to export to QuickTime for e-mail, the Web or CD-R; how to create a free iTools account; how to upload a movie; and how to export for iDVD, Apple’s entry level DVD authoring software.
“Making Awesome iMovies” is presented in a new media presentation format DVcreators.net has pioneered called “ISM,” in which text and graphics summarizing the concept being presented are synchronized with the video in a fluid, exciting multimedia experience, according to Josh Mellicker, president and CEO.
“Recent breakthroughs like FireWire, DV camcorders, software like Apple’s iMovie and cheap, fast ATA drives mean the tools exist to create broadcast quality video at a breakthrough price,” he said. “It’s very exciting to see video just starting to be used in fields as diverse as training, education, marketing, medicine, religion, politics and law. And of course, just for fun.”
