MacDrive 5, the newest version of the cross-platform file sharing software, has been released by
Mediafour Corp.. The latest version of the application, incorporates several enhancements, including a new set “of advanced options,” according to Mediafour President Brian Landwehr.
One of the most significant features of MacDrive 5 is Windows XP compatibility, as well as continued support for Microsoft Windows Me, 98, 95, NT 4.0 and 2000. MacDrive 5 complements the Windows XP focus on improving the user experience by offering a more navigable “XP-style” interface and by adding a tutorial section to the help file for easier troubleshooting, Landwehr said. New advanced options include a read-only mode and a taskbar notification icon, which provides shortcuts to the most popular MacDrive features.
MacDrive 5, which costs US$49.95, includes faster copying of multiple files, the display of Mac icons on property pages, new extension maps supporting software such as Office X, and support for Mac OS X long file names. What’s more, MacDrive 5 bundles the full version of the latest release of Aladdin Systems’ StuffIt product (a US$30 value), which lets users create, open and e-mail both Zip and StuffIt files.
“MacDrive has long been quality software,” Landwehr said. “This particular release of MacDrive, however, has a mix of new features, improvements and a slick new interface that all work together to make it something special.”
