Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group and Pixar Animation Studios announced that a specially-created group of animated “outtakes” from Monsters, Inc. will debut in theaters beginning this Friday, December 7. The new outtakes will appear with the end credits of the film.
Monsters, Inc. is the fourth computer-animated motion picture collaboration between Disney and Pixar Animation Studios. Like Apple, Pixar is headed by Steve Jobs, who maintains an active leadership role at both companies. Previous Pixar-produced Disney movies include Toy Story, A Bug’s Life and Toy Story 2. The next Pixar-produced film will be Finding Nemo, which is slated for release in summer of 2003.
This is the latest installment of a tradition begun with “A Bug’s Life” and continued with “Toy Story 2,” Disney/Pixar reported. The outtakes feature the lead characters — including Sulley, Mike and others — in various “behind the screams” situations.
In related news, Disney/Pixar noted that Monsters, Inc. raked in US$200 million in its first 30 days of release, setting a record as the fastest animated film to take in that amount in that period of time.
A sneak preview of the outtakes is expected to be made available this Friday on both the Monsters, Inc. Web site and Apple’s QuickTime Movie Trailers Web page.
