If you’re a software developer or publisher looking for a secure way to handle online software ordering and delivery, you may be interested in a new offering from Lava Software called DeliveryMage. It’s a software distribution system designed to operate across multiple platforms, including “Classic” Mac OS and Mac OS X.
The DeliveryMage system features secure online ordering, reliable delivery through a resumable download manager and various Web site monitoring services. The system also supports download subscriptions and includes the ability for customers to check for updates.
The DeliveryMage system is broken into two main components: the DeliveryMage Vendor Toolkit, for vendors, obviously, and the DeliveryMage Download Manager, the client-end application. Vendors set up their own accounts on the Lava Software order servers, and can also activate their own Web page-based ordering system via DeliveryMage if they wish. Vendors can store their product files on their main Web site and up to 10 mirror servers.
Secure online ordering is a top priority in the DeliveryMage system; the DeliveryMage Download Manager encrypts orders using a 448-bit encryption system and the order remains encrypted until it arrives at the vendor’s computers. “Orders thus remain fully encrypted throughout the order transmission chain, effectively creating a secure order pipeline between the customer and the vendor,” explained Lava Software.
DeliveryMage works on PowerPC-equipped Macs running Mac OS 7.6.1 or higher, including Mac OS X.
