Mireth Technology has released version 4.9 of ShredIt, its eDocument shredder for the Mac that offers a way to destroy personal and confidential information.
It can be used to shred a file, folder or even the free space on a disk. ShredIt overwrites the file contents, file name, creator and type. The changes are permanent so use it with caution.
New to version 4.9 is the “Safe Place” feature that lets you protect important documents from accidental shredding, according to MacTech magazine. For example, you can move your child’s homework into a Safe Place folder so it can’t be accidentally shredded.
ShredIt is available in English, French, German and Japanese. To use the utility, you need a Mac 608×0 or Power Mac running Mac OS 8 or later. PPC, 68k and FAT versions are available, though no Carbonized version has been released.
The cost is US$15 with bulk discounts available. You can download ShredIt from Mireth’s Web site, where a demo copy is also available.
