XLR8, the Mac-focused manufacturer of processor upgrades and peripherals, has a new version of their Carrier ZIF, the Carrier ZIF SSE (Six-Slot Edition). It’s available in three configurations: a 400MHz MACh Carrier G4 SSE, a 450MHz MACh Carrier G4 SSE, and an unpopulated board compatible with Apple and XLR8 ZIF G3 and G4 processors.
These products bring Motorola G4 compatibility to Mach clones with PCI cards in more than three of their six slots as well as the 9500 and 9600 series of six slot Macs. The upgrade cards are targeted to power users who haven’t been able to utilize the G4 processors in their computers due to an inherent hardware incompatibility.
As with prior versions of the Carrier ZIF family, the new cards sport a modular approach to upgrading and can be upgraded with various speeds of G3 ZIF and G4 ZIF processors. The boards are compatible with a soon to be released dual processor adapter card, the MACh Velocity G4 MPe 50. The cards are also eligible for XLR8’s TradeUp/TradeIn program where customers can trade in their older XLR8 and non-XLR8 upgrade card for a discount.
