Sonnet Technologies today announced that its Crescendo/7200 PowerPC processor upgrades are now Mac OS 9.1 compatible, thanks to their release of the version 1.0.2 software updater. The Crescendo/7200 adds PowerPC G3 or G4 technology to various Macs with soldered CPUs on their motherboards, including the 7200, 7215, 7200 and Workgroup Server 7250 models.
Sonnet founder, president and CEO Robert Farnsworth noted that the 7200 series was one of the best selling Mac platforms in history, and said his company is pleased to offer the upgrade. “Even after we’ve shipped a product, Sonnet continues to support our customers with continuing enhancements and updates,” said Farnsworth.
The new Crescendo/7200 updater Version 1.0.2 software is available for free download from Sonnet’s Web site.
Mac OS 9.1 compatibility isn’t the only change with this new version. With the updater installed, Crescendo/7200-enhanced Macs can also support the Sonnet Tempo ATA100 PCI Host Adapter, a high-speed disk drive interface; as well as up to 768MB of total RAM capacity (384MB on the card and the same on the motherboard.
Prices for the Crescendo/7200 range from $249.95 to $399.95 depending on features and speed. The company is offering a special promotion on 128MB DIMMs through the end of the month, as well — more details are available from Sonnet’s Web site.
