Mac game publisher MacPlay has elected to end the year with a wee bit of subterfuge. The company has put the word out that they’re working on a new secret project, code named Project Deuce. For hard details about Project Deuce, however, it appears that gamers are going to have to wait until Macworld Expo in San Francisco next month — that’s when MacPlay said that it would formally announced the title.
What a difference a year makes. At Macworld Expo San Francisco 2001, MacPlay was just getting off the ground. The new company — a subsidiary of United Developers — had licensed its name from Interplay, which once published a wide variety of games under the MacPlay brand. MacPlay had released Sin Gold and Majesty and had cut a Mac game conversion and publishing deal with Interplay, but that relationship hadn’t yet borne fruit.
Since then, MacPlay has released Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition, Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, and the Mac OS X-only title Giants: Citizen Kabuto. On Friday, the company announced that its latest release, Sacrifice, had gone gold master and was in production, slated to hit stores by Christmas. MacPlay has six more announced titles slated for release in the upcoming months, as well — Project Deuce will up that number to seven.
