The Empower Pro Internet Phone 1.1 from Empower Pro is now available and offers a way for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X users to connect with Mac users around the world via real-time voice communication over the Internet.
Empower Pro Phone lets you have real-time voice communication with any other Empower Pro Phone user — and it’s a Mac only app, according to Susan Fougerousse of Empower Pro. All the recipient needs to do is download the Empower Pro Phone to answer the call.
You can make and receive calls whenever you’re online. It’s “ideal” for people with DSL and cable Internet connections, which are always on, Fougerousse said. But even if you have a 56K dial-up connection, your Mac-using friends and colleagues can now get through to you while your phone line is connected to the Internet, she added.
Fougerousse said that this latest version of Empower Pro Internet Phone offers improved sound quality with reduced latency; a preference window for settings application preferences; a Phone Book for keeping track of Favorites; Speech Recognition for voice control; enhanced error messages with recommended user action; and improved support for USB microphones on Mac OS X.
The Empower Pro Phone is available starting today for US$29.95. And, for now, it includes a free trial period; the “Holiday Gift Special” offers a 50 percent discount of $14.95 through Dec. 31.
