In Mac game publisher Aspyr Media’s latest edition of their monthly electronic newsletter, the company noted two points of interest to gamers looking for new fun on their Macs.
Spider-Man nearing release
Aspyr said that the Macintosh conversion of Spider-Man, the latest game the company has licensed from Activision, is nearing its end. Already released for the PC and a multitude of video game console platforms, Spider-Man enables you to play the role of the Webbed wonder as you battle evil foes.
Spider-Man is a third-person action game. You employ Peter Parker’s enhanced senses, strength and agility to evade pursuit and defeat comic book villains like the Green Goblin, Venom, Scorpion and Rhino. You can sling webs, climb buildings, and swing from the rooftops.
System requirements for Spider-Man call for a 400MHz or faster PowerPC-equipped Mac; Mac OS 8.6 or later (including Mac OS X); 96MB RAM; 4x CD-ROM, and ATI RAGE 128 or better hardware 3D acceleration.
Spider-Man is rated E, for Everyone, and is available for pre-order from Aspyr’s Web site for US$39.95.
“Our expected ship date will be right around Christmas, no definites, yet,” said Aspyr.
Harry Potter goes to beta
Aspyr also reported that Westlake Interactive has made progress on the Macintosh conversion of Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone, the 3D action/adventure game based on the motion picture still in theaters (and, of course, the book written by J.K. Rowling).
“Harry Potter is moving along nicely and could make it through conversion, just in time for Macworld San Francisco. Keep your fingers crossed,” said Aspyr. Macworld Conference & Expo comes to the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Calif. from January 7-11, 2002.
The game puts you in the role of Harry Potter as you learn to master magic at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You explore Hogwarts while solving puzzles, learning how to cast spells, battling foes and uncovering various secrets. You’ll interact with more than a dozen characters, team up with Harry’s pals Ron and Hermione, and you’ll even get a chance to play Quidditch, the fast-paced arena sports game played by witches and wizards on brooms.
System requirements for the forthcoming game call for a PowerPC-equipped Mac running at 300MHz or faster; Mac OS 8.6 or later (including Mac OS X); 96MB RAM; 4x CD-ROM; and ATI RAGE 128 or better hardware 3D acceleration.
Preorders for the game are being taken at the Aspyr online store; the company is selling the title for $29.95.
