MarcMoini Software has updated Smart Scroll to version 3.7.3, a maintenance release that adds support for Mac OS 9.2.2. Sorry, but the shareware product isn’t available for Mac OS X.
Apple adopted “smart scrolling” in the traditional Mac OS, but mostly for the Finder. MarcMoini’s Smart Scroll brings “Proportional Thumbs” and “Live Scrolling” to applications such as AppleWorks, Word, and most system add-ons such as control panels. It lets you adjust scrolling speed for “all situations and all Mac models,” according to the MarcMoini gang.
You can use it to put arrows at both ends of your “scrolls.” With proportional thumbs, the size of the thumb relative to the scrollbar shows how much of a document is displayed in a window. And Smart Scroll’s Live Scrolling updates the display as you drag the scrollbar thumb.
You can download Smart Scroll 3.73 (a 147K file) from the MarcMoini Web site. You can try it free for 15 days. The registration fee is US$12 for a single user. The 3.73 update is free to registered users.
