Earlier this year MacCentral brought readers news about Captain Bumper, a side-scrolling action game developed and initially published by French company MacRun Games. Now long-time Mac software publisher Casady & Greene has announced a deal with the company to distribute the title in the US and Asia.
Featuring colorful, cartoon-style animation and smooth gameplay, Captain Bumper is evocative of “classic” arcade gaming made popular in the 16-bit video game console era — titles that once proliferated the store shelves for systems like the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Sega Genesis.
In the game, you assume the role of the title character, a lantern-jawed hero sent to save the princess. In his trusty spaceship, Captain Bumper blasts his way through hordes of nefarious aliens and other menaces as he seeks to rescue the princess from certain doom. He also has to collect fuel, shields and ammunition along the way. The game is fast-paced and challenging, but suitable for the whole family.
Casady & Greene notes that the game will soon be available for purchase as an electronic download from their Web site. Captain Bumper costs US$29.95, and supports Mac OS 8.6 – Mac OS X.
