Aestiva, L.L.C has released Aestiva HTML/OS 1.9, the latest version of its Web operating and development platform, which delivers a single-product solution for Web site and Web software development.
Aestiva HTML/OS eliminates the need for CGI programming and integration tools such as ASP and ColdFusion, according to MacTech magazine. It offers an integrated development environment that includes a built-in Web database. Development is done with HTML, according to Aestiva’s director of technology, D.M. Silverberg. This kind of focus on the Web cannot be accomplished with conventional operating systems since they are hardware-centric, not Web-centric, he added.
Version 1.9 includes new multi-tasking capabilities, improved database cross-platform compatibility, and new tools to help developers build Web-based applications. Beginning with version 1.9, Aestiva provides both a development version of HTML/OS (called the professional edition), and a run-time version for running applications built with HTML/OS.
Aestiva HTML/OS is available for Mac OS 7-9, Mac OS X, Sun, SGI-IRIX, BSDI, FreeBSD, Linux, Cobalt RaQ, and Windows platforms. Aestiva HTML/OS retails for US$799.99; upgrades are $150. Web software written in HTML/OS can be put on any of the platforms supported without rewriting code.
