Ampex Corp. shocked some Mac users in February when it announced a decision to close SANcube maker MicroNet Technology. There’s now a grassroots effort afoot to resurrect the company, led by former employees.
Irvine, Calif.-based MicroNet was a long-time supplier of data storage solutions to the Macintosh market. The company was best known recently for the SANcube, a FireWire-based storage area network (SAN) solution. Developed to support multiple users and provide hundreds of gigabytes of data storage capacity, the SANcube X-stream won the Best Storage Product award during the Macworld Editor’s Choice Awards earlier this year during Macworld Expo in San Francisco.
Owner Ampex closed the company in February, citing corporate losses of US$26.2 million for its fiscal year 2000. Ampex attributed $11.6 million of its losses to MicroNet itself.
Gary Bart now says that he and other former employees of MicroNet want to rebuild the company under new management and new ownership. He strongly reiterates that his effort is being made independently of and without the endorsement of MicroNet Technology Inc., Ampex Corp. or their officers.
An open letter to all of MicroNet's former customers and supporters.
My name is Gary Bart, many of you know me. I was Southeast Regional Manager at MicroNet. I have been a MicroNet reseller in the channel, a consultant, and a former owner of a prepress company. I have long been devoted to MicroNet.
As some of you may have heard rumored, some of the former employees of MicroNet are trying to save the company. I am among them. We are actively seeking investors to rebuild MicroNet and make it the type of company it can and should be.
All of us are steadfastly devoted to the Graphics community and especially Apple, and Apple's customers. We believe that MicroNet has represented the highest quality storage equipment on the market, especially for creative professionals. We care deeply about our customers and we appreciate their loyalty.
Under new management and ownership, we believe that we can rebuild MicroNet and solve all of the issues we were powerless to under previous ownership.
We need to ask a small favor of each and every one of you. I would greatly appreciate an email testimonial from you. We need to hear positive support for the products and for a "new" MicroNet. We have all seen some great companies come and go in this business and it is always a shame. Your positive comments will assist us in securing sufficient funding to ensure our success.
For those of you who are not big fans of MicroNet or have experienced problems in the past, we ask you to look past that and support a vendor who has been devoted to innovation and undying support of the Apple community. If you do have negative comments, we need to hear them as well. We need your input to make MicroNet the best it can be.
Please send your comments to me personally at garybart@mac.com .
The employees of MicroNet thank you for all your past business and support and we hope we can earn your trust and support in the future.
Anyone interested in investing in the new MicroNet, please contact me.
Please take a moment and send this email to as many people, news groups, and message boards as possible.
Thank you,
Gary Bart
