The Asante FriendlyNET Cable/DSL router can connect to the Internet using either an RJ-45 cable through 10baseT or via a DB-9 serial port. The router also features four 10/100 Ethernet switched ports, as well as a DB-25 parallel port connector for a printer (the router also acts as a print server).
The FriendlyNET router incorporates support for Dynamic IP PPPoE (point to point protocol over Ethernet); Static IP over cable (@home-type); or dial-up and ISDN access. The hardware also sports an integrated firewall with natural packet filter and network address translation (NAT) support.
The included administration software enables admins to adjust access control, making it possible to assign users of three kinds of groups, to allow or block access to specific TCP and UDP ports, thus enabling admins to control users’ ability to browse, read news, and send e-mail.
