Bitstream has released Type Odyssey, a font collection that includes the entire Bitstream Typeface Library. That’s over 1,000 fonts, including display faces and families of text faces, in case you’re counting.
The collection includes many Bitstream originals, such as Bitstream Amerigo, Candy Bits, Oranda, and the Prima font families. All of the fonts from the Bitstream New Font Collection are on the collection, too, including Lindisfarne Nova, Liorah, and Melanie. Type Odyssey also comes with complete Typographer Sets from these typeface families: Bitstream Cataneo, Bitstream Charter, Bitstream Chianti, and Bitstream Iowan Old Style. Typographer Sets include ligatures, swashes, fractions, small caps, and old style and alternate characters.
Type Odyssey is a completely unlocked CD-ROM. Its fonts are in TrueType and PostScript formats for both Mac and Windows systems. Details can be found at the Bitstream Web site.
Want more fonts? Well, Agfa Monotype has added a number of Indic typeface designs to their WorldType multilingual typeface library.
Both of the “major computing platforms,” Macintosh and Windows, continue to increase their multilingual capabilities, including the ability to support an expanding range of Indic languages as part of their operating systems, according to Kamal Mansour, manager of Non-Latin Fonts at Agfa Monotype. To keep pace with this growth, a total of 60 new typeface designs have been added across the nine major Indic scripts (Devanagari, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujerati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam and Oriya) to Agfa Monotype’s WorldType library, he added.
“In order to support the growing demand for Indian typefaces on computer systems, we have felt the need to further extend the stylistic variety of our collection,” Mansour said in a statement. “To achieve this goal, we have licensed a large number of typefaces from ITR in Pune, India, for inclusion in our WorldType Unicode font library. Known for its high quality and its broad range of native designs, the ITR Type Library was a natural fit.”
Agfa Monotype has supplied WorldType fonts to organizations such as Alis, Apple, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Microsoft, Sybase, Sun Microsystems, and the U.S. Department of Defense, among others. The new ITR fonts in Agfa Monotype’s WorldType font library can be seen online.
