Farallon, a division of Proxim, Inc., has released a maintenance update for its SkyLINE 11Mb PC card and its SkyLINE 11Mb PCI card. The new software driver can be downloaded from Farallon’s Web site.
Both cards support wireless network communication using the IEEE 802.11 standard, the same technology used by Apple in its AirPort products. Users of SkyLINE cards can make their PowerBooks and PCI-based Macs communicate with a local area network (LAN) or the Internet via an Apple AirPort Base Station or through other systems that support the 802.11 standard.
Farallon indicated that the new version of the installer, 2.3, “improves stability and adds support for the included firmware updater, allowing you to upgrade your card to 8.3 firmware.” Farallon did not outline what specific changes or enhancements have been made to the 8.3 firmware, however.
