WebPrint Plus — a Mac-only utility that offers a way to gather, save, and print information from almost anywhere, including the Internet — has been updated to version 4.0.
The utility gets rid of most problems a user experiences when printing from their Web browser. WebPrint also accelerates printing, saves money by reducing the amount of ink/toner and paper they use when printing, and offers options when gathering, saving, and printing information, according to WebPrint author Stephen Becker. WebPrint lets you select and save, edit, index, or print just the part of the document that’s needed. It works in most applications.
WebPrint Plus 4.0 includes a new, simpler, and more customizable interface, Becker said. In addition to being able to print selected text in virtually any program with their own keyboard shortcuts (even when WebPrint Plus is hidden from view), users can now also save any selected text with their own keyboard shortcuts, he added.
“Users can quickly and easily control which WebPrint Plus tools are displayed,” Becker said. “Plus, you can quickly and easily set the left printing margin for all the data they print with WebPrint Plus (the margin currently in effect is always displayed in the Preferences button). This feature is especially useful to anyone who prints with hole-punched paper, such as students and faculty.”
Users now have a choice of 20 color themes for WebPrint Plus. And you can use the Preferences button to set the default action that is to be performed when command-clicking the Iconified View. WebPrint Plus’ main features can now be activated by command-clicking WebPrint Plus’ Iconified View (WebPrint’s display can be reduced to a small, draggable icon). Plus, you can hold down the Shift key when clicking on the Iconified View as a shortcut for displaying the Iconified view’s default action. Version 4.0 works with both America Online 5.0 and the AOL 5.0 Web browser, as well as Netscape 6.x .
“WebPrint’s buttons now respond even more quickly than before,” Becker said. “And its code includes additional enhancements. Also, WebPrint’s Balloon Help and documentation have been updated and improved.”
WebPrint Plus 4.0 requires a Mac with System 7.5.3 or later (including Systems 8, 8.1, 8.5, 8.5.1, 8.6, and 9.x) and a 68020 or later processor (including Power Macs, iMacs, G3, G4, PowerBooks, and Performas). A free, fully functional 10-day demo version is available online. Users of earlier versions can upgrade to WebPrint Plus 4.0 for US $14.95.
