REALbasic 3.1 is here and adds Mac OS X specific features and improves database functionality, according to Lorin Rivers of REAL Software.
A free upgrade for all REALbasic 3 owners. REAL Software created this upgrade to improve its compatibility with Mac OS X and take advantage of the intuitive graphic user interface, Aqua, Rivers said. REALbasic 3.1 also operates on earlier versions of Macintosh operating systems.
It allows programmers of all skill levels to develop their software with a single set of user interface elements and code to compile native applications for Macintosh, Mac OS X, and Windows without requiring any platform-specific adjustments, according to REAL Software Product Manager Lorin Rivers.
Besides OS X compatibility, other new features of REALbasic 3 include an all new animation engine, revamped database features, enhancements to the Code editor and debugger, crash recovery, searchable online reference, build (compiling process) AppleScriptable, improved IDE, improved Windows support, and more.
“REALbasic 3.1’s features for Mac OS X enable users to begin developing the native software that users of Mac OS X will demand,” said Geoff Perlman, CEO of REAL Software, in a statement. “I see this as a huge opportunity for developers interested in gaining market share from slower-moving competitors. We expect to see an explosion of Mac OS X-native software between now and summer.”
