Chaotic Software has updated two of its products, WebTimer and BioAssistant 1.7.1, to make them Mac OS X compatible.
WebTimer can be used to continually download a single URL from the Internet, which can be useful in situations where you want to monitor “Web cams.” You can also combine the free WebTimer with Chaotic’s QuickMovie, a US$20 application that creates QuickTime movies from a series of images, to download pictures and stitch into a movie. With WebTimer, Mac OS 8/9 users can write Chaotic for a free registration code. Mac OS X users don’t need a registration code. You can download the app from the download site.
BioAssistant, an update to the PCR chemistry tool, has been updated to version 1.7.1. BioAssistant was written to improve on Probe Assistant, CSL’s first attempt at a tool to assist PCR Chemists design DNA Probes. With BioAssistant you can do all the things you could do with Probe Assistant, such as determine probe Melting Points, Molecular Weights, Hybridization information and other useful tidbits, but with a refined interface. It also extends on Probe Assistant feature set by introducing several tools, such as a Master Mix Calculator.
Besides OS X compatibility, the update also fixes a printing problem with Mac OS 9, snuffed a glitch with space characters in sequences, and added a new icon for Mac OS X. You can download the app from its download site.
