NewTek, Inc. announced today that its industrial-strength 3D modeling software LightWave version 6.5 is now available in final form for Apple’s newly released Mac OS X.
NewTek VP of 3D graphics Brad Peebler said that his company is enthusiastic about Mac OS X, and is happy to be the first company out of the gate with a finished 3D app ready for Mac OS X.
“The operating system really allows LightWave [6.5] to shine and we think that our commitment to the platform is made clear with the strength of the software and the concurrent release,” said Peebler.
LightWave 3D has long been popular with designers in television and film production, and NewTek is trying to carve out a place for the software with game developers, as well. The company said it had a successful showing of LightWave at the Game Developers Conference, which took place last week in San Jose, Calif.
LightWave 6.5 features dozens of new features or feature improvements, optimizations, fixes and enhancements. For a complete list of what’s changed, visit the LightWave 6 Web site.
LightWave 6.5 for Mac OS X can be downloaded immediately by registered owners of LightWave 6 for Mac. If you want to buy the packaged product, it should be soon available from NewTek dealer network for a suggested retail price of US$2,495. And in case you haven’t upgraded to Mac OS X yet, worry not — LightWave 6.5 updates for Windows and Mac OS 9 are soon to follow, according to NewTek.
