As Mac OS X went on sale Saturday, Apple released new versions of iTunes, iMovie and AppleWorks. All of them were available for download from a downloads page on Apple’s Web site.
We say “were” because the AppleWorks 6.1 preview has disappeared. A note from Apple says that you should “check back for an updated version of the AppleWorks 6.1 preview Mac OS X.” No reason is given for removing the previous version.
AppleWorks 6.1 Preview for Mac OS is actually a pre-release version that will expire on Sep. 1. The new version of Apple’s integrated word processing, spreadsheet, database, and page layout application is distributed as an update to AppleWorks 6.0.4, the latest full release version developed for use with Mac OS 9 and lower.
MacCentral did manage to grab a copy of the preview before it went AWOL. We’ll check it out and let you know what we find. And, of course, we’ll also let you know when the new preview appears.
