updated Apple Tech Info Library document
confirms the change in distribution and MacCentral has confirmed through dealers that the change is actually shipping.
Mac OS 9.1 includes the proper code to use the volume up, volume down, mute, and the media eject keys found on the keyboard. The keyboard functioned with all USB-based Macs prior to Mac OS 9.1’s introduction, but the use of these specific keys has up to now been limited to Macs released at the same time or after the Apple Pro Keyboard was introduced last summer.
The 108-key keyboard has been criticized by many for the lack of a power button, requiring users to start their Mac by pressing the power button on the unit itself — sometimes difficult on a G4 Cube or Power Mac G4 which sits on the floor.
The US$59 Apple Pro Keyboard is available for purchase through
the Apple Store. The keyboard requires Mac OS 9.0.4 or later.
