Iomega Corp., announced Monday the European release of a 1.3GB Magneto-optical drive available in two configurations.
The drive, which was co-developed with Fujistu, is currently available in Europe only in internal ATAPI and external SCSI configurations. Pricing was not announced.
Iomega’s MO drives read and write to 1.3GB MO disks, with transfer rates up to 5.9MB per second. The MO disks are encased in a permanent plastic housing for protection. The MO drive, as well as Iomega’s other MO drives currently on the market, offer backward compatibility with 640MB, 540MB, 230MB and 128MB MO disks. User guides are provided in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
North American availability was not announced and it is not known when the drive will be available domestically, if at all.
