Westlake: Monkey Island beta; Monopoly Casino gold
By Peter Cohen
Popular Mac game conversion studio Westlake Interactive today revealed the status on two projects — the forthcoming graphical adventure game Escape from Monkey Island, and Monopoly Casino. One project has reached beta status while the other has now gone gold master, ready for publication.
Escape from Monkey Island will be published for the Mac by
Aspyr Media. It’s the first game that Aspyr has licensed from PC game publisher LucasArts, and it’s the latest installment of a popular series of adventure games that feature adventure on the high seas during the days of swashbucklers and pirates.
“The game is looking very solid and plays well on our low-end machine requirement (i.e., G3/233, ATI Rage Pro, & 64MB of RAM). Jesse Spears has done a great job bringing this game over to the Mac; there’s not much left for him to do besides polish and add a few extra features,” said Westlake.
“We anticipate a fairly short testing cycle with EFMI (probably just a couple of weeks). So with any luck, everyone will be unlocking the secrets of Monkey Island very soon!”
Monopoly Casino is done, reports Westlake.
“Monopoly Casino has been declared gold master by MacSoft, and is off to duplication! Soon you will be able to play all your favorite casino games with the Monopoly characters you know and love,” said Westlake.
MacSoft licensed Monopoly Casino from Hasbro Interactive in a deal announced last summer during Macworld Expo in New York. The game uses the enormously popular board game Monopoly as a backdrop for casino-style gaming. It features computer versions of poker, blackjack, roulette, keno, craps, and slot machines, plus much more.
