CXC has released a new version of its Gnutella client for the Mac, Mactella. The new version, 1.0.1, is in distribution at CXC’s Web site.
Gnutella is an open, decentralized, peer-to-peer software sharing system available for multiple computer platforms. Different users on different computers maintain lists of files available for download, and download files themselves from other Gnutella users. Gnutella is often used as an alternative to MP3 file sharing services like Napster, and it has some fierce proponents who like its open source background and architecture.
CXC says that Mactella 1.0.1 is currently being tested for compatibility with various Gnutella clients that run on the PC, including BearShare, ToadNode, LimeWire, Gnotella, GNucleus, Furi, and Gnutella 0.56. The various developers are apparently communicating more with each other, says CXC.
Other improvements include improved stability when using a modem connection to the Internet, and a system check to make sure that Mac OS 8.5.1 or higher is installed.
