3D animation and video product developer NewTek Inc. is encouraging users of its LightWave 3D software to enter a new contest. The focus of the contest is to promote LightWave 3D 6.5 as a content creator for games.
NewTek wants participants to enter content that shows off real-time gameplay, full-motion video cut scenes, still images, and movie files created using LightWave 3D. LightWave objects, textures and scenes can also be submitted.
NewTek Vice President of 3D graphics, Brad Peebler, said that the new version of LightWave has been well-received by the games development community, and the goal of this contest is to get in touch with game developers to find out how they’re using the product.
“By rewarding the applicants, we are able to hopefully make it worthwhile for them as well. Of course, we will be giving public credit at trade shows and on our web site as well,” said Peebler.
The deadline for the contest is slated for March 9, 2001. The Grand Prize includes a full copy of LightWave 3D version 6.5 and Aura 2 (a PC-only content creation tool). Prizes will be awarded to runners up as well.
NewTek’s pedigree as a tool provider for game developers is already pretty well established — the company lays claim to graphics produced for recent hits like Deus Ex, Quake III Arena, and many others. NewTek products are also used in the production of feature films and prime time television programs.
Interested entrants are encouraged to submit content on CD-ROM or via e-mail, if the file is less than 5MB. Electronic submissions can be e-mailed to lwgamescontest@newtek.com. CD-ROM entries should be sent to:
