Mac upgrade card maker Sonnet Technologies Inc. has started work on OS X drivers for its Crescendo, Encore and Presto upgrade cards and is hoping for their release in time for the new operating systems rollout on March 24.
Much of the work is being done by team members recently acquired from the now defunct Newer Technologies, CEO Robert Farnsworth told MacUser UK during a European press tour.
Farnsworth also said the company is working on new products including multi-processor upgrades for current Power Macs and has discontinued development, including OS X drivers, for older Macs with NuBus expansion slots.
Before the demise of Newer, Farnsworth claims Sonnet controlled some 60 percent of the Macintosh upgrade market with Newer at 25-30 percent. He expects many of those Newer customers to migrate to Sonnet products.
