EZ Data Technology has released a new version of CD-R Access Pro. The new version, 4.6, can be requested online using a form on their Web site.
CD-R Access Pro is a CD-R mastering software that works much the same way as Apple’s vaunted Disc Burner software (the software included with new CD-RW-equipped Power Mac G4s). Rather than using a separate application interface like Roxio’s Toast software to control how data is written to recordable CDs, CD-R Access Pro mounts recordable CDs on the desktop, providing a familiar desktop icon for the user. The software works through the use of a system extension.
EZ Data Technology also indicates that CD-R Access Pro provides data compression capabilities that allow up to 1.3GB to be stored on a standard CD-R or CD-RW disc, compared to the 700MB or so of uncompressed data that a disc can normally store. EZ Data claims that this can be done without sacrificing speed or ease of use.
The new version of CD-R Access Pro features support for Mac OS 9.1, as well as support for new CD-R drives which use mechanisms manufactured by Plextor, Yamaha and Sony. CD-R Access 4.6 also sports support for the new Sony CD-RW drives installed by Apple in its new Power Mac G4 systems.
System requirements include a Mac Plus or higher; System 7 or later; 5MB of contiguous free space on the startup drive; and a compatible CD recorder. CD-R Access Pro supports various drive mechanisms that work with SCSI, ATAPI and FireWire interfaces.
CD-R Access Pro is sold for US$99 direct from EZ Data Technology. A fully functional time-limited demo is available for download. Please check EZ Data Technology’s Web site for more information about CD-R Access Pro.
