The gang at the Iconfactory, a source for freeware icons, have announced the winners of the 2001 Pixelpalooza, the Internet’s largest Mac icon design contest.
Cruise on over to the Iconfactory Web site and you can check out — and download — the work of the Grand Prize, Runner-Up and People’s Choice winners in these categories: 3D, Illustrative, System Replacement and OS X.
This year’s Pixelpalooza garnered 125 entries from 26 countries. Contest sponsors included Aladdin Systems, Font Diner, MacAddict Magazine, MacSurfshop, Microsoft, Panic and Power On Software. You can drop by the Iconfactory to download the winning sets, as well as check out the judges’ scores and comments.
Meanwhile, the Iconfactory has also launched DeskBase, a searchable database of Mac, Windows and Linux Web sites that offer downloadable items to customize your computer. Using the free service, you can not only search for Web sites, but also for specific GUI (graphical user interface) related content such as icons, desktop pictures, Kaleidoscope schemes, fonts and more.
Web sites that are added to the database can enter keywords to assist users in search of specific content. Plus, the DeskBase will offer Links of the Week and tracking of sites that have won past Pixelpalooza contests.
