Macromedia has released an update to its Flash authoring system. Flash is a popular add-on for Web pages; the software provides vector-based graphics and animation. This update is specifically for the authoring system for Flash, not for the user plug-in itself.
Flash is used in a variety of applications, from Web page interface design to animation. Developers and designers using flash can combine vector-based graphics and bitmap images, audio, animation and interactive elements together, along with scripting elements and server-side connectivity. The design concept behind Flash is to deliver low-bandwidth media-rich content to the Web and other media.
Flash 5.0a is a Macintosh-specific release for Flash. Flash 5.0a incorporates the following changes:
On some systems, working in Flash 5.0 with the Sound Panel open could cause the application to become unstable.
On some configurations, when exporting complex Flash movies such as movies containing Smart Clips inside of movie clips, Flash 5.0 would crash reporting a “Type 12” error.
With Flash 5.0 (English only), Using File > Export to Animated GIF format could cause the application to crash.
Dragging and dropping a frame into a timeline layer with no blank frame in the first frame of the layer could cause Flash 5.0 to crash.
In rare circumstances, moving an object using the arrow keys could cause Flash 5.0 to crash.
