MacCentral reader Nik Stanosheck advises that Microsoft has released a new version two popular TrueType fonts: Arial and Times New Roman. The new fonts are ready for download on Microsoft’s MacTopia Web site, under the Patches & Updates area in Downloads.
“Mac OS 9.1 comes with version 2.6 of these fonts, but these new updates from MS are version 2.9,” writes Stanosheck.
According to the info on Microsoft’s Web site, the new versions of the fonts have been developed for compatibility with PostScript Level 3 printers. The new fonts fix a problem that prevented certain characters from being printed.
Both fonts are part of Microsoft’s collection of “TrueType core fonts for the Web.” The fonts are installed into the Fonts folder of the Mac OS System Folder by default by some MS applications, like Internet Explorer. If you’ve been having trouble getting pages that use Arial or Times New Roman to print properly on certain PS Level 3 printers, you may want to try these replacements.
