If you’ve been following MacCentral’s news from the Mac game industry all week, here’s an opportunity for you to catch up on some of the smaller but nonetheless important items that we haven’t already covered.
Mac DooMLegacy 1.0 released
Calum Robinson has released a 1.0 version of Mac DooMLegacy, a special version of Id Software’s classic first-person shooter Doom with support for OpenGL. It’ll use both Doom and Doom II .WAD files, and all the author asks for in return is a postcard from where you live.
Ambrosia declares “Shareware Amnesty”
Popular shareware and boxless software publisher Ambrosia Software has declared “National Shareware Amnesty Week.” Every title in their library is on sale for US$10 only to encourage closet users of their games and utilities who haven’t paid for them yet to step up and do so. The company also promises that its parrot mascot, Hector D. Byrd, “will be issuing karmic blessings to those who take advantage” of the special offer. Hey, with that deal, who can refuse?
Q3F Beta 1H released
Q3F is a popular third-party mod for Id Software’s Quake 3 Arena game — it provides gamers with team- and class-oriented goals and game play elements. The developers have been good about Mac support, too. A new version with “new maps, new audio, tons of gameplay adjustments, lots of new features and dozens of fixed bugs” is now available — Q3F Beta 1H. If this is your first Q3F download, you’ll need to grab the previous ones too. Check the site for more info.
Combat Mission back in stock
If you’ve been longing to get your hands on Battlefront.com’s popular World War II-era strategy game Combat Mission, you’re in luck. The company announced last week that it’s back in stock, after a brief hiatus. The reason why they ran out? They didn’t want to make new CD’s until version 1.1 was in the can. Speaking of which, 1.12 is now available.
Get ready to DomiNate
Wild Cat Software has released DomiNation 1.1, a new shareware strategy game. It’s a bit strange but can be fun — the goal is to dominate your opponent by occupying squares worth certain point values. The player with the highest point value wins.
WarBirds 2.77 available
Imagic Online has released a new version of its multiplayer, online World War II-era flight combat game WarBirds. The new version, 2.77, is ready for download from Imagic Online’s Web site. And no, this isn’t the long-awaited new version with hardware-accelerated 3D graphics.
Game Doctor finds new home
Inside Mac Games has announced that it has acquired the source code to Illume Software’s Mac game cheat and help utility, Game Doctor. Congrats to the folks at IMG for keeping this valuable Mac game resource alive and well.
OnX brings Tic Tac Toe to OS X
Okay, it may not be the sexiest game in the world, but it had to be done by someone. RealMac Software has announced the release of OnX 1.7, what it believes to be the first version of Tic Tac Toe released for Mac OS X. It’s $5 shareware.
Elsewhere on the Web
SimHQ has posted an interview with Sylvan Clebsch, author of the core engine technology used in Targetware’s forthcoming online flight sim game, Target Korea. Inside Mac Games has posted an interview with two designers working on Marathon: Rubicon, a new total conversion for Bungie Software’s legendary Marathon: Infinity game. And last but not least, there’s a relatively new resource for Mac flight sim fans called Macflightsims.com that you should check out, if you’re a fan of the genre.
Closer to home
MacCentral was chock full o’ great game news this week, too. Hoyle Board Games and a new Disney title for kids. Aspyr and Westlake announced that there will be a Mac Deus Ex multiplayer patch after all. Aspyr also announced plans to publish a Mac version of American McGee’s Alice, the surreal 3D action game.
