Spiderweb Software, the developers behind role playing games like Avernum, Nethergate, and the Exile series, have announced work on a new title, Geneforge. It’s a fantasy role-playing game due out late this year or early next year, to be released on CD-ROM.
In Geneforge, you take the role of a Shaper. “You are a member of the most powerful and secretive of the magical guilds, with the power to create life and mold it to serve your own needs,” explained Spiderweb on its Web site. “For millennia, everyone feared and respected the Shapers above all others. Their creations could go everywhere, do anything, all according to the wishes of the Shapers, and no others.”
Someone has stolen the power of the Shapers and taken them for his own. “He would use the power of the Shapers to remake the world,” said Spiderweb. “The question is a simple one. Will you fight him? Or join him?”
The game features 16-bit graphics and fully animated characters. Spiderweb indicates that the game will enable players to create their own army of lethal creatures, with an open storyline that will enable you to choose your own path and decide how the story will turn out.
